CONTRA-SHEAR SUBOSCREEN
A unique horizontal design
The contra-shear suboscreen drum is a horizontal, semi-submerged, in-channel rotary drum screen suitable for fine screening of sewage and industrial waste water. It is coupled with an integral drainer screw press (dSP) that washes, dewaters and conveys the solids out of
the channel.

The suboscreen model is installed semi-submerged in a channel at the inlet of the
plant and most often does not require any prescreening upstream.
The screen drum is typically constructed out of Vee-Wire® screen (perforated plate design also available depending on the application). The influent entering the suboscreen screen changes direction through 90 degrees as it exits through
the screen, resulting in a higher capture of solids.
Solids captured inside the screen drum are dropped into a central flume and transported to the integral dSP by gravity and water jets. Critical to the screen’s low head loss is the wash
sparge system, which ensures a clean screen face is always presented to the influent stream.
The operation of the suboscreen rotary drum is normally linked to the pressure differential between upstream and downstream levels in the channel.
The suboscreen model is capable of handling flow rates from 6,340 to 63,400 gpm (1,440 to 14,400 m³/hr) through a single unit.
